To mark the 40th anniversary of The Clash’s legendary debut album, Social Cinema presented a screening of the punk rock spaghetti Western Straight to Hell, starring Joe Strummer. Featuring a wealth of musical and film luminaries (The Pogues, Elvis Costello, Jim Jarmusch, Kathy Burke), Alex Cox’s film follows a group of bank robbers with a suitcase full of money, hiding out in a bizarre Western town. Dispensing with narrative logic, Straight to Hell is a joyously anarchic affair with Joe Strummer at his charismatic best.
